Undoubtedly Game of Thrones which is based on the George RR Martin’s Song of Ice and Fire Series is one of the greatest television series of our time. It would be fair to compare it to Tolkien’s Middle Earth.

We all know how well Middle Earth merchandise sells as companies keep producing products from it to this day. Game of Thrones hasn’t fared so well. About two years ago Funko were producing Funko Legacy Figures which is now sadly cancelled due to poor sales. One of the licenses they had for this line was Game of Thrones, they produced two series of figures where the second series were much better than the first before it was untimely killed off. This left fans with a lot of empty spaces in their collection.

What is the most sad to me though is that McFarlane Toys were starting a line of Game of Thrones Building Sets. They showed loads at a trade show from many of the set pieces from the series and they looked extremely good and they only released one. The Iron Throne and blind bag figures. All the rest of the building sets were cancelled along with the remaining Walking Dead sets.

Now the only companies producing figures for Game of Thrones figures are the Funko Re-Action (sort of) figures, Dark Horse are producing Game of Thrones Statues and Three Zero Produce high quality figures and that’s it. No one else is producing anything else worth mentioning. It’s real shame as the universe is very rich, a great character selection and a great medieval look to it all and unfortunately it hasn’t really caught on with collectors which is shame and now I think The Walking Dead is falling into the same circle where it hasn’t really caught on.

I think it’s because of the pricing and the production cost which makes it rather hard for figures to do well in this economic climate which is a shame.
