In December 2017 when Disney released Star Wars The Last Jedi there was a lot of backlash as many fans weren’t too happy with treatment of Luke Skywalker. In the film as he was  disillusioned and had cut himself off from the Force, and wasn’t exactly the hero many fans remember from the end of Return of The Jedi and in the expanded universe books and comics.  Which are no longer canon since Disney bought the license in 2013.

I personally felt the treatment of Luke was fantastic and Mark Hamill was outstanding in the role. I expected his character to change somewhat since we last saw him in Return it’s been 30 years in the timeline since we last saw him and a lot has happened since then and the ending was very much in Luke’s character it’s something I would expect him to do. I can see why some fans disagreed with this and their entitled to their opinion and it’s fine I don’t have a problem with them.

What I absolutely disagree with is that some of the fans harassing the director Rian Johnson and the studio using social media to make them apologize to you. Or to fire Rian Johnson  and quit his planned trilogy of other Star Wars films and make Kathleen Kennedy resign. it’s incredibly petty and they don’t own you anything. It’s a film, a piece of fiction, grow up.

Though there are those who are far worse. In 2015 when The Force Awakens was released some fans were spouting SJW, Leftist Agenda, Mary Sue and all sorts just because the lead character was a woman and one of the other main characters is a black man. It’s gotten worse now in 2018 as the misogynistic and racist fan base have sexually and racially harassed Daisy Ridley and Kelly Marie Tran to a point that they have closed down their social media accounts. It’s far from acceptable and just shows to me that they are scared, pathetic man children .

They also set up media campaigns and videos to persuade fans not to see the recent films. Because of the supposed SJW pandering and such like in the films and that they suck. Eight months after Last Jedi they still go on and on with their tirades it’s pathetic.  They were extremely happy when Solo bombed at the box office and gave themselves a pat on the back for it not doing so well. In all the fan bases I am part of I’ve never seen such a  self-entitled, fragile pathetic bunch of individuals in my life. Their lives must be so miserable that they want other people to be just as miserable and hateful as them. I wish they would get off the internet or find something positive to focus on and move on with their lives, knowing full well they won’t.

The main reason I wrote this article is because I am sick to death of this and I want to put my thoughts in a post like this so I can let it out. I don’t really read any of it but I see their videos recommended on Youtube which I have no interest in whatsoever and it hasn’t stopped me enjoying Star Wars whatsoever.

The thing is Star Wars is meant to change it can’t be the same for 40 years. Characters develop, Heroes live and die and the stories go on to be passed down to future generations and that’s what these new films are about, making new heroes for this generation whilst introducing them to ones of the past. There’s plenty of comic book stories to fill in the gaps and introduce us to new characters.  I don’t see it as cynical by Disney with what they have done with license so far, it could be but I don’t see it that way with the great directors, writers and actors they have on board telling new stories from A long time ago in a galaxy far far away.
