I know that it has been a while since my last post, but I have been rather busy the last month or so. I’ll try to write more content in the coming weeks and months. Firstly I want to talk about SDCC Toy Reveals, as all collectors know SDCC is Christmas come early for collectors previewing toys that are coming out later this year and early next year.

In this article I am only going to focus on those companies and the products that interest me and which I can collect. Hence you won’t be seeing any of Mezco Toy’s fantastic One:12 collective figures mentioned here as I simply cannot afford them. Before I get on with the great stuff I first have to mention the elephant in the room.

McFarlane Toys

Of all the reveals this year I have been most disappointed with McFarlane Toys. Aside from some prototype figures from 3D scans that we saw before SDCC. Which were the two Stranger Things figures and Captain Kirk and Captain Picard from the recently acquired Star Trek License the had absolutely nothing new to show. Especially from their biggest license acquisition The Walking Dead. They had absolutely nothing new for the Color Tops line or the Comic Book line, which has given people the idea that they are canning the comic book line too. What was also disappointing was that they had nothing new to show for Assassins Creed. With the latest game revealed in June at E3 I thought McFarlane Toys would be showing off something new for that license and alas nothing.

With all the protagonists from the games that they could make in the Color Tops line, which I would really welcome. They had absolutely nothing. I was hoping that they would show off more than one Spawn, we are getting Commando Spawn later this year and that’s all they showed in SDCC. What is also really annoying is there was still no announcement made on what happened to their Walking Dead and Game of Thrones Building Sets.

After being spoiled with all the other reveals from the other companies, McFarlane Toys really dropped the ball this year.

Diamond Select Toys

It was a pretty big blow that Diamond Select Toys had to cancel their Pirates of The Caribbean Select figures which I was really looking forward to after they had dropped the preview images with the Build-a-Diorama pieces. Although they didn’t have much to show this year we did see the Thor Ragnarok Marvel Select figures and Guardians of The Galaxy Vol 2 Select which we haven’t seen before and they looked pretty good. I’m up for these figures as I really do like their MCU output of late, especially their Dr Strange.

They also had their Spider Gwen, Netflix Daredevil and Homecoming Spider-Man on display which are expected to be released sometime this year. Later this month Lady Deadpool which I am really looking forward to. They also had their Dark Tower Select figures which I am really excited for as well as Pulp Fiction which I am really looking forward to as well. Also we’ll be getting the Kill Bill figures next year as well.

I’m on the fence about the Ghostbusters 2 figures and Real Ghostbusters figures. As I skipped out on the Ghostbusters figures as the diorama was too large. For 2 and Real Ghostbusters you can build the Fire House Doors which looks awesome so I may pick up these. I’ll wait and see.

Hasbro

I have to say Hasbro have really surprised me this SDCC. Over the last year I have become a really big fan of their Marvel Legends line and their Star Wars Black Series figures. They didn’t have much to show for the Star Wars Black Series with the film coming out later this year. I’m guessing they are waiting for Force Friday to reveal their new Black Series figures from the film. They revealed some sweet new figures from Force Awakens and a Clone Trooper who I have forgotten the name.

They did show a new Rey Black Series figure which shows the new face printing technique for the faces which really show off the great sculpt with equally great paint apps. I know that the Japanese companies use this technique and now Hasbro have started to use it for their Marvel Legends MCU and Netflix figures and it looks fantastic.

For Marvel Legends I was absolutely blown away by their reveals. They showed off a new Deadpool wave which consisted of a 90’s Deadpool & Cable, X-23 and Domino. A new Spiderman wave which included Gwenpool, Mysterio a Lizard BAF. A Riders Wave which included Black Widow and Ghost Rider (yes). A Vintage Card wave, a 12-inch Wolverine, a Defenders box set and so much more.

They also had the Thor Ragnarok wave and Marvel Knights Wave which have just hit stores now. I am really excited for these waves and I have already gotten the Thor and Loki from the Thor Wave and I’ll be looking to get the others soon.

NECA

NECA did show off a lot before the expo which was a taster of what’s on show at SDCC. They were pretty sweet reveals. Aliens Series 12 Vasquez, Ripley and Battle Damaged Aliens, Exclusive James Cameron figure and a Burke 2-pack, Blade Runner 2049 figures, Valerian Figures and Robocop VS Terminator Ultimate Future Robocop and a few others.

At SDCC they showed off the AVP video game figures, Ultimate Child’s Play Chucky,  Ultimate Freddy’s Revenge Freddy, Ash VS Evil Dead Series 2, Friday The 13th Accessory Pack and Robocop VS Terminator figures. What really surprised me though was that NECA are doing a Guillermo Del Toro Collection Line which looks incredible and are must haves for me. I wonder if it’ll expand into his other films like Hellboy and Crimson Peak and such like. I’m a big Del Toro fan so this is very exciting for me.

What is the most exciting for me though and what I was really hoping for was that NECA had the license for the latest God of War game and they revealed a 7″ Kratos and a 1/4″ Kratos from the upcoming game. I love the design for Kratos in the new game and I am very excited for this figure. NECA’s video game figures are rather underrated sector of NECA’s vast catalog of licenses. I really love the Ultimate Chucky and Ash VS Evil Dead Series 2 figures look excellent and are a must have especially Asylum Ash and Henrietta.

We’ve still got Ultimate Hero Ash vs Evil Ed from Evil Dead II and Ultimate Hero Ash from Ash vs Evil Dead coming out. We’re getting a lot of Bruce Campbell figures this year. I really like the look of the Valerian figures and those Blade Runner 2049 figures look incredible especially the one of Deckard.

Ultimately I love the TMNT stuff they are doing, but I don’t mention it much as I can’t get too excited for them as they can’t sell them here in the UK which is a great pity. I know that NECA will have some other reveals and surprises this year.
