Recently my interest has sparked in Graphic Novels, I’ve rediscovered my love for the hobby. In my absence from following what’s being released I have found a whole host of interesting titles that I need to discover.

The first mature graphic novels that I got where The Batman The Dark Knight Returns and The Crow, That’s what really started my interest. Since then it’s really grown. I’m still very much interested in mainstream comics and characters but I’m picking up on the lesser known titles as well.

I’m a big fan of noir and when I discovered Sin City I was hooked, though at this time of writing I have only read up to Volume 4. It mixed classic pulp with the OTT violence that some comics were known for.

It’s introduced me to some great artists and writers as well like Brian Azzarello, Lee Bermejo, Ed Brubaker, Grant Morrison, Jeph Loeb and many others who I can’t recall. I also love that almost all genres get a wide array of titles it’s outstanding.

You can get horror, thriller, action, superhero, drama, history, romance, comedy, noire and many others. What i also really love is that some film properties that have expanded into comics telling new original stories. We’re getting further Indiana Jones, Escape From New York, Big Trouble in Little China, Ghostbusters, Indiana Jones, Robocop, Star Wars and many others it’s outstanding.

Of course Marvel and DC are leading the way with comic book film and television adaptations, though other lesser known comics have been adapted Hellboy, The Walking Dead, Preacher all relatively successful. Due to the adaptations comic book sales have increased greatly so more different titles are being produced and sold digitally and physically to reach a wide audience. The artwork in thousands of titles is absolutely outstanding in my opinion.

I’m glad that graphic novels have hit a wider audience and I hope it continues to flourish and grow and continue to be a fantastic platform for writers and artists for decades to come.
