Even as the end of the year draws closer I’m still somewhat slacking when it comes to picking up Arrow Video’s/ Academy’s latest releases.
This year I still need to pick up Matinee, Dead End Drive In, Hired To Kill, Return of The Killer Tomatoes, The Swinging Cheerleaders, The Glass Key and The Blue Dahlia.
Later this year Arrow have some more releases lined up and I have added some films that they’ll be releasing in January 2017, now in no particular order:
The Initiation
Arrow have released a number of slasher films this year and The Initiation is one of the last few ones that they’ll be releasing later this year. It’s also one of the better slashers from the slice and dice era of the 1980’s. I should note that this is a updated ArrowDrome release with some new special features and new artwork so if you have the dvd this a great upgrade.
Released November 7th
The Hired Hand
Arrow Academy have released a number of Westerns all of which have been great and their latest is Peter Fonda’s The Hired Hand which looks really interesting and a great cast to boot.
Released November 21st
To Live & Die In LA
I’ve seen To Live and Die in LA and I absolutely loved it, Dafoe really stands out in this film. It’s a fantastic William Friedkin film and I hope that we get some more soon. I will be definitely getting this one
Release November 21st
Donnie Darko (Limited Edition)
Now this one was completely unexpected and is certainly a big title release for Arrow Video and it comes with plenty of special features, which it should as it’s definitely a cult film.
Release December 12th
Cohen & Tate
After hearing more about 52 Pick-Up with Roy Scheider I’m more excited about this film now. It sounds exactly like a film I would really enjoy watching. I cannot wait for this and it’s directed by Eric Red who has also wrote The Hitcher which has been a long requested title.
Release December 5th
Pulse
I haven’t got all that many Arrow Video J-Horror releases, well only Audition and this one looks really exciting with a great premise as well. I’ll be definitely getting this.
Release December 5th
Howling II
Now this one is completely unexpected and I know of the legendary god awful reputation of this film which is unintentionally hilarious which is the reason why I think Arrow have released this. This film is going to be a right hoot.
Release 14th of November
Raising Cain (Limited Edition)
This has been delayed till next year and I cannot wait for it. I’m a big Brian DePalma fan and I’m really looking forward to and I’m definitely getting the Limited Edition which has an alternate cut of the film.
Release January 30th
The Guyver
Arrow have been releasing a number of Brian Yuzner’s films either as a producer or a director and that trend continues with The Guyver. I’ve watched Good Bad Flick’s Review of this film (seriously check that Youtube channel out) and it looks nuts. I love the artwork as well and as I have the other films Society and Bride of Re-Animator I’ll definitely be getting this one as well.
Release 19th of December
Bring Me The Head of Alfredo Garcia (Limited Edition)
Other fans of Arrow have been looking forward to this title for quite some time as we knew some Sam Peckinpah was on the way and they didn’t disappoint. As I’m a big fan of Sam Peckinpah this is an absolute must have for me and the extras are incredible as well. It has to be the Limited Edition for me, I don’t know if we’ll be getting more of Sam’s films released by Arrow but I sure hope so.
Release January 21st
Hell Comes To Frogtown
This announcement made me really happy. When I first got into the Arrow Video/Academy label this title piqued my interest, though by that time it was already out of print and the scalpers were charging a fortune for. Then last month Arrow announced that they’ll be re-releasing the film without the booklet which makes fans like myself very happy as I’m very keen to get this film, plus it stops the scalpers from profiting from the old release to.
Release December 19th
